Configuring your SPF record for cPanel Email hosting

Overview:

If you have just purchased a cPanel service and want to set up a new email address,  you will need to configure the SPF records on your domain.  An SPF record is used to prevent email spoofing and improve email deliverability. It specifies which mail servers are authorised to send emails on behalf of your domain.

If your domain is using cPanel DNS:

If your domain is using cPanel's DNS and you've configured your NameServer records to point to cPanel, you can follow the steps below to confirm the SPF record is configured correctly.  By default, your SPF should be configured for you in cPanel.

  1. Log in to your cPanel account.
  2. Navigate to the "Email Deliverability" tool in the "Email" category.
  3. Click "Manage" on the domain name you'd like to check. If you allow the page to load fully you should see if cPanel detects any issues.
  4. Scroll down to the "SPF" section.
  5. If the SPF is valid, you shouldn't need to make any changes. However, if "Problems Exist" is displayed, then  you'll need to repair the SPF record.
  6. As long as your domain is configured to use cPanel as its DNS manager, you can simply click "Install The Suggested Record" and cPanel will take care of the configuration.
  7. Do keep in mind that changes to DNS can take between 2-8 hours to action, due to propagation.  After this time, your domains will resolve using the new details.

If your domain is not using cPanel DNS:
  1. Log into your cPanel account.
  2. Navigate to the "Email Deliverability" tool in the "Email" category.
  3. Click "Manage" on the domain name you'd like to check. If you allow the page to load fully, you should see if cPanel detects any issues.
  4. Scroll down to the "SPF" section.
  5. Copy the line in the "Value" section by clicking the "Copy" button below the entry.
  6. Save the copied information into a secure location or note.
The string of text should begin with "v=spf1" and end with "~all".
    1. Alternatively, you can use the default Micron21 SPF record below:
      "v=spf1 +mx +a  +include:spf.micron21.com ~all".
  7. Log into your Domain or DNS host (where you manage your TXT Records).
  8. Add the SPF record as a TXT record.  Be sure to name the record after your domain name.

If you don't know how to manage TXT or SPF records with your DNS provider, you will need to contact their support team for more details.
