Domain name eligibility requirements

Overview:

Before purchasing a new domain name, ensure you meet the eligibility requirements to avoid the risk of the domain being invalidated and deleted.

.au domain names:

.au domain names have specific eligibility requirements established by auDA to confirm the owner's significant presence in Australia. Review all .au domain name requirements on auDA's website: https://www.auda.org.au/policy/au-domain-administration-rules-licensing

Other ccTLD domain names:

Other ccTLDs (Country Code Top Level Domain), such as .nz and .uk, also have their own specific requirements, which generally involve proving a significant presence in that country. To learn more about these requirements, refer to the country-specific documentation online.

.com and other gTLDs domain names:

Most gTLDs , such as .com, do not have any eligibility criteria for registration. However, it's important to note that there are some gTLDs that have restrictions on who can register a domain name under that TLD. For example, .edu and .gov TLDs are restricted for use by educational institutions and government entities respectively.  To avoid any issues later on, it's always recommended to research the specific requirements of the gTLD you're interested in registering before proceeding.
